Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”
– John 8:12
Today I am thankful that God is the light of the world.
In the beginning, God chose to create light first. With light comes life, and hope. When God sent His Son into the world, He gave the Light to us.
Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it…The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
– John 1:5, 9
Just as light overcomes darkness, God helps us overcome whatever circumstances we face. With His light, we can see clearly to take our next step confidently by God’s side. His light protects us, guides us, and casts aside our fears. David writes in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom should I be afraid?”
When we don’t know which way to turn, who to believe or how to move forward, God promises us His light. We can look to Him and trust His light to lead us. The Psalmist reminds us that “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
Jesus proclaimed that He is the light of the world. When we follow Him, we will never walk in darkness. We will have His light.
Follow the light today. Follow Jesus!
