Thankful: God is faithful and just to forgive

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

– 1 John 1:9

Today, I am thankful that God is faithful and just to forgive my sins.

When I confess, He will forgive. God has already paid the penalty for my sin. That was finished on the cross. This verse promises me that God is faithful and just in His application of forgiveness. When I come to Him, God will never leave me stranded or alone or destitute. He is faithful and sure to forgive when I turn away from my sin and turn to Him. He will not cast me aside, no matter how filthy my life is.

When He cleanses me, and washes off the dust of sin (and caked-on mud and dirt underneath my fingernails), His justice prevails. God does what He has decided is right, by making me right with Him again. He is holy, and has called me to be holy. So, God forgives and washes away my unrighteousness.

I am clean because of Jesus! My sins are forgiven because of God’s faithfulness and justice.

And that is why I can face every day with confidence and security in Christ, living in the freedom of God’s forgiveness.
