We spent the beginning of 2014 with our family. Here we toured the Airline History Museum in Kansas City.

1. Being a family – This is the most viewed story on my blog this year, and of all time, in fact. Families crave time together, but often it is difficult to engage everyone or come together just to enjoy being with each other. This extremely simple idea revolutionized our family time, and gauging the interest in this post, it is working for many others, too!

2. God is not a risk-taker – God opened my eyes to His grace when my daughter fell and ended up with a concussion and in the ER. Though there is so much that we don’t know and must leave in God’s hands, nothing is a surprise to God. God always knows the outcome. He doesn’t take risks. And because God’s love is sure, trusting God isn’t a risk.

3. Jesus serves His disciples – My family’s preparation for Easter, 2 Weeks 2 the Cross, was a popular feature on the blog this year. We wanted to make Easter a priority celebration, anticipated as much or even more than Christmas, as we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. This particular day of our journey, we focused on Jesus washing His disciples feet. We each took turns doing that for each other. Though I’ve washed my children’s toes thousands of times, this was a first to have mine washed by them!

4. Empty – Our favorite syrup was discontinued this year, and we were forced to find a substitute. Just like our last syrup bottle, we often grow spiritually dry and attempt to substitute our agenda and purpose for God’s. Brands may come and go, but God’s love remains steady and strong. We will remain filled when we stay connected to the source.

5. Jesus is crucified – Also in our 2 Weeks 2 the Cross series, this day we learned about the way Jesus suffered on His way to the cross. The Scripture we read as a family was a difficult one, to consider what Jesus went through for us. We made cross sun-catchers, to remind us that Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins.

This year, I look forward to sharing with you how God reveals Himself in the details of life. I hope to pick back up my Jesus Journey series, a verse-by-verse look at the book of Luke. I will also be sharing experiences from our 2 Weeks 2 the Cross and annual Christmas Countdown.
