Jesus takes my punishment (Day 10 of 2 Weeks 2 the Cross)

Oh the wonderful cross

Oh the wonderful cross

Our 2 Weeks 2 the Cross journey has finally led us to the foot of the cross.

It was difficult to read our Scripture passage today in Matthew 27:27-37. Jesus was flogged, mocked and spit upon. A crown of thorns was pressed into his head and then beaten down with a rod. He was so weak that someone else had to carry the cross to Golgotha. His arms were stretched out across the wooden beam, and nails driven through his wrists and ankles. Finally, he was lifted up, for all to see His agony.

My children’s little faces were downcast as I read, and all the chatter and wiggles stopped as they listened to what Jesus went through.

Day 10 Connection Icon: The Cross

Jesus did it all for us. Jesus took the punishment we deserved for our sins. He went through all that suffering because there was no other way.

The charge written against Jesus and hung above Him on the cross said, “This is Jesus, King of the Jews.”

The Lord of All willingly laid down His life so that we could have abundant life.

After praying and thanking Jesus for His amazing sacrifice for us, we made sun-catcher crosses so that we will remember that our life and light only come through the cross.

(To create a sun-catcher cross, glue pieces of tissue paper onto wax paper, and then glue black construction paper cutouts on top of that. Trim, and hang on a window that gets a good amount of sun during the day.)
