Jesus connects me to God (Day 12 of 2 Weeks 2 the Cross)

Digging a hole and burying our sins
Digging a hole and burying our sins

After overseeing Jesus’s crucifixion from start to finish, the centurion proclaims, “Surely this is the Son of God!”

The earth rattled, and the temple veil was torn from top to bottom. Jesus’ death secured my forgiveness and ensured direct connection to God. My sin is paid for, by the precious blood of Jesus.

In Matthew 27:45-54, 57-61, Jesus wins the victory over sin, cries out, and willingly gives up His spirit. It is finished! Jesus’s body is taken down from the cross, and Joseph of Arimathea receives Pilate’s permission to bury Jesus.

That day Jesus was lifted up above the earth, then buried and closed in below the earth. Jesus is placed in a new tomb, and a stone is rolled across the entrance.

Tonight, each family member colored a piece of paper black, symbolizing our sin. We folded it up and went out in the yard. Matt dug a hole, and each of us buried our sin. The kids covered the hole and did a “sin stomp” to pack the dirt back in.

When we ask God to forgive us, He takes our sin and buries it and remembers it no more. Jesus paid for our sins and buried them. They are gone!
