Jesus turned a trick question into a lesson of love.
After Jesus cleared the Temple, the religious leaders were more determined than ever to get rid of Him. So, during the week leading up to the cross, they tried everything they could think of to trap Jesus in His words.
On Day 3 of 2 Weeks 2 the Cross (Matthew 22:34-40), we find Jesus being confronted with the question: What is the greatest commandment?
Jesus summarizes the entire law and all of the prophets with two commands.

Love God. Love others.
This is why Jesus came, and why He gave His life on the cross. He proved His love to God by obeying His command, no matter where that would lead or what it would cost. He demonstrated His love for the world (including you and me) by paying for my punishment in full.
Jesus’s command is our mission.
As a family, we brainstormed ways we could show love to God and love to others. Then, we played LOVE Hopscotch to reinforce God’s command to love.
We had two bean bags to use with our hopscotch game. If we chose the pink one, we shared one way we could love God. If we picked the purple one, we shared how we could love others.

All of us participated, and we even tried tossing both bean bags on the board. The kids loved jumping all over, and lasted long after Matt and I sat down to watch. I have a feeling the hopscotch squares will remain on the carpet for awhile!
I hope our priority to love God and love others will last even longer.

Another winning lesson for all of us; young and old. What beautiful pictures. Jill, you are a wonderful Mom and wife. God bless.
