Jackson and Lauren wave their palm branches to celebrate Jesus entering Jerusalem.
When the crowds swelled along the dusty road leading down to Jerusalem, they shouted more than mere praise.
“Hosanna to the King of Kings!”
Day 1 Connection Icon: a palm branch
The Cobb family kicked off our 2 Weeks 2 the Cross journey with Jesus on Sunday, as we looked closer at Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We read Mark 11:1-11 together and then talked about how Jesus began His last week before He would be crucified. We marched around our living room shouting “Hosanna to the King of Kings,” and imagined how the crowd praised Jesus as they watched Him ride past on a donkey.
Hosanna means “save us,” and we discussed how much the crowds and each of us needs Jesus. We need Him to save us from our sin and from ourselves so that we can have new life and forgiveness. Jesus came to save us.
To help us remember this day, Jackson and Lauren each made special palm branches. Lauren started with a green construction paper already cut into a large leaf, and she practiced cutting to make the fronds. She also thought the palm branch needed some pizzazz (it was a celebration, after all), so she added a few sticker jewels. Jackson cut long strips from his piece of green construction paper, and then taped them all over a paper towel roll.
Making our palm branches
After they created their unique palm branches, we marched around the living room, waving our branches, saying, “Jesus, save us King of Kings! Jesus save us, King of Kings!”
